PROECCO: Promoting Employment through Climate-Responsive Construction
At PROECCO, we are dedicated to driving positive change in the sustainable,
green, and inclusive urban transformation of unplanned Settlements. As an
initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and
implemented by Skat Consulting Ltd; we are committed to Promoting Employment
through Climate-responsive COnstruction practices. Additionally, we are at the
forefront of the in-situ inclusive transformation of unplanned settlements through
participatory approaches.
Our journey began in 2013, and since then, we've been relentless in the
pursuit of reshaping the local brick construction industry and triggering
sustainable urban transformation in the Great Lakes region, rapid urbanization
has spurred a demand for construction materials and housing. The introduction
by the PROECCO program of sustainable, affordable, low-carbon bricks that meet
strength and durability standards has created strong demand.
Our primary focus centers on fostering job creation through green and cost-efficient
building materials which is a pivotal response to the urgent need for
affordable housing solutions.
We remain dedicated to pioneering innovative solutions that reduce our
carbon footprint and combat the pressing challenges of climate change.
Our commitment extends to actively supporting the mass production of low-carbon
modern bricks through brick industry clusters and emphasizing knowledge
transfer to fuel local business growth.
PROECCO Program also
supports the planning and piloting of ‘Community Rehousing and Neighbourhood
Upgrading of Unplanned Settlements’ to develop and implement scalable
mechanisms to address the sustainable transformation of unplanned settlements
by actively engaging local communities in the process.
Addressing the region's challenges including deforestation, climate-induced
erosion, flooding, and the spread of informal settlements; PROECCO champions
urban densification, climate-responsive construction practices, and the
utilization of locally sourced and green building materials in sustainable and inclusive
urban transformation.
